The back Story
In 2023, Richard of Wallingford paid a visit to the pervayers of many a fine pair of wheels, Pedelon in Tadley. An owner of several Giant Anthems already, Richard was a fan of Giant bikes and applying the N+1 rule to bike ownership, he found himself making an impulse buy of the extremely good looking, well equiped, trail munching machine, that is the Giant Trance X (RRP £3599).
After only a few outings however, Richard (aged 75+!) realised this beast of a bike was probably a bit more than he really needed for his local rides and returned to his Giant Anthem before applying the trusty N+1 rule again and buying a Scott Spark RC Comp!
Richard has now decided that after several years in the shed (the bike, not Richard), it’s time for the Trance X to live the life it was built for, and has very generously offered it to us here at Uptonogood? to help raise money for our good causes.

The Marketing Blurb
Giant Trance X 29 1 (2022): built for riders who want one bike that can do it all — from big mountain adventures to all-day trail sessions. Featuring 135mm of Maestro rear suspension, a 150mm Fox 36 Float Performance fork, and a Shimano SLX 1×12 drivetrain, this is a premium alloy trail bike with the control and capability to conquer any terrain.
The Trance X 29 1 (2022) takes the proven Trance X platform and adapts it for riders who prefer the smooth-rolling speed and stability of 29-inch wheels. Built with ALUXX SL-grade aluminium and 135mm of Maestro rear suspension, it’s paired with a 150mm Fox 36 Performance fork for a balanced ride that climbs efficiently and descends confidently. With Shimano SLX 12-speed shifting and 4-piston hydraulic brakes, this model is built for precision and durability.
With its 135mm Maestro suspension and Fox 36 Performance fork, the Trance X 29 1 offers a smooth, planted feel on descents while remaining efficient on the climbs. The 29-inch wheels improve rollover on technical terrain and maintain momentum on flowing trails, while the flip chip lets you adjust geometry for your riding style — either low and slack for descents or steeper for climbing precision.
- Confident and stable — 29” wheels and long-travel suspension inspire control
- Custom-tuned suspension — Fox units matched specifically to Giant’s frame kinematics
- All-day capability — comfortable, progressive geometry suited to UK trails
The Trance X 29 1 (2022) is a premium trail bike for riders who demand versatility and control. It’s light enough for long climbs, but with 150/135mm travel it has the capability to tackle enduro-style terrain with confidence. With Shimano SLX 12-speed components, Fox suspension, and a fully tubeless-ready setup, it’s built for reliability and performance straight out of the box.
- Best for: Trail centres, big mountain rides, and enduro-style descents
- Not for: Pure XC racing or ultra-lightweight builds
- Standouts: Maestro suspension • Fox 36 Performance fork • SLX 12-speed drivetrain
