Fellow cyclists,
It will perhaps come of no surprise to you, that we now feel there are no set of circumstances under which “Uptonogood?” can go ahead this year.
Beyond the social distancing aspect which would preclude any post ride festivities, we will struggle to attract our normal marshalling contingent, many of whom are elderly and not wish to expose themselves to greater risk.
Come June adequate first aid cover may also be impossible to secure, as many of these people may be called upon to help in the NHS.
Blewbury School and Hagbourne Scouts are also key contributors to the day, running the BBQ and car parking respectively. Since both organisations are effectively closed to normal operations it would not be appropriate to ask them to participate as normal.
On the organisational front, we would normally be booking the required services, facilities, and music acts for the day as well as communicating with our sponsors. All this seems futile in the current situation, so again it is with regret that we announce this year’s event cancelled.
Regarding refunds we are only able to offer a full refund of the monies we actually receive, as PayPal does not allow us to recover the costs of your original transaction (2.9% + £0.30). However, the least effort for us would be to simply roll your registration over to next year. If you are willing for us to do this, you need not take any further action. If you would prefer a refund, please let us know. To be clear if you do roll your registration over to 2021 and then find nearer the time that you are unable to participate, you may request a refund at that time.
We all have many days of frustration ahead of us. But remember the labyrinth of by-ways and bridleways remain open to explore both by bike and foot and there is plenty of space for us all.
Keep sane, keep cycling, keep COVID19 at bay.
All the best,
Bob Lott & Mike Tibbetts
